Get started with Copilot

Copilot is Microsoft’s AI assistant. It can help us to be more productive in many ways.

Policy on on the use of Copilot at SEGRO

Here is the company policy on the use of Copilot at SEGRO.

Some points to know before we start

Copilot Enterprise Data Protection (note the badge/icon that shows this) means that we can upload confidential data into Copilot

At the time of course preparation (July 2025), this version of Copilot does not have access to work sources, but we can import / upload Word / PPT files if required.

Copilot is also available integrated into M365 apps such as Word, PowerPoint. This course does not cover that aspect - there is other training on this.

Copilot Features

Here are some useful features of the Copilot user interface.

Dictate and Speak Aloud

Dictate allows you to speak rather than type your prompt. (This is not yet full voice mode. Copilot will reply in text). Speak Aloud will use a voice to read Copilot’s response.

Prompt Gallery and Saving Prompts

Copilot offers some example prompts to get you started. This expands into a gallery of prompts. You can save a prompt that you may want to use again and it appears in the prompt gallery.

Search

There is a Google style search (but perhaps the chat is more useful).

Pages

A page provides a space where the user and Copilot can work interactively together on a document, for example, to draft a document, analyse a spreadsheet, write Python code. (Pages will have a familiar feel for users of Microsoft OneNote.)

Exercise: Get started with a few example prompts

Let’s get started using Copilot. Here are two starter prompts. Feel free to use these or choose others

Tip: Create a new conversation for each new topic.

Create a bar chart showing the market share of SEGRO vs competitors in the REIT sector

How has the SEGRO share price done over the last six months

Note that Copilot suggests starter prompts and has a prompt gallery.

After a response,

• Copilot may suggest follow-on prompts.
• Copilot will list its web sources and provide links.
• Copilot can read aloud the response.

You can see the list of recent conversations and all previous conversations.
